円舞 – ENBU by Shohei Katayama
February 27, 2015 @ 6:00 am - March 29, 2015 @ 9:00 pm
Artist Shohei Katayama has made his mark on the local arts scene by creating elegant installations that can leave a viewer in the same kind of awe as a cloud formation might inspire. That’s no coincidence given that many of Katayama’s works largely address ecology and spirituality, often by creating art based on patterns found in nature. His new solo show is called “Enbu,” a Japanese word whose definition in Japanese is dancing in a circle. Katayama says the installations in the exhibit use the circle “to evoke thoughts of unity, time, space, control and the ego” but also to address the evolution that occurs in cultures. To create his installations, Katayama has used a variety of materials including magnets, water and drawings.
Enbu will be on display at PYRO Gallery from Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 29.
