Arts On Quality Place
October 25, 2013 - October 27, 2013Free
The Arts Association of Oldham County and the Buckner Family YMCA have teamed up to produce an art show with quality and unique art in all prices and mediums. The YMCA’s indoor arena will be filled with artists’ booths, cloth draped tables and Autumnal décor as they repeat their annual fundraiser, Arts on Quality Place October 25 -27. Proceeds from the show help fund the YMCA’s annual giving campaign and allows them to offer free programs to underprivileged children. They also help the Arts Association of Oldham County promote the arts in the community and run Gallery 104 in La Grange.
The weekend kicks off with a Preview Party at 6 pm Friday night. Patrons can shop the booths of 60+ artists while enjoying libations and passed appetizers. Paintings, photography to jewelry and custom made clothing will also be in a silent auction and live music will complete the setting. Then guests will be served a catered buffet dinner and have the opportunity to bid on items like UK/UL basketball tickets, balloon rides, even a ride in the pace car at Kentucky Speedway. Ladyfingers is catering the event so the food will be just as exciting as the art. Tickets can be purchased for $80 up to October 20 by calling the YMCA at 222-9358
The show itself has free admission and parking Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 5 pm. The juried artists at this show are both local and national participants coming in from AL, GA, OH, MI, TN, IN and NC. Patrons last year shared that they were impressed with the diversity and quality yet reasonable pricing of the art. The indoor arena that houses 2 regulation size soccer fields is a great venue for this event- lighting is great, the “astro turf” is nice footing, there’s music playing and a snack bar for the weekend.
Since the show coincides with the Pewee Valley Arts & Crafts shows, Assistant Director Lea Ann Luce came up with an idea to promote both events. “Fun Between the Shows Along the Tracks” offers visitors specials at businesses along the railroad tracks between Pewee Valley, the Buckner show and even La Grange. For example Texican’s BBQ is offering a buy one sandwich get one free for patrons by presenting the promotional flyer that can be picked up at any of the shows. Many other businesses are participating with specials and if the patrons visit just one of the businesses, they are eligible for a $100 cash drawing at the end of the weekend.
The craft shows in Pewee Valley are Saturday 10 am – 4pm at the Pewee Valley Women’s Club & Presbyterian Church, St Aloysius and St James Churches, all free. Oldham Arts on Quality Place is open Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 5 pm.
