August 17, 2013 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pmFREE
B. Deemer Gallery presents “Light and Shade”, paintings by Bloomington, Indiana artist Mark Blaney.
“Light and Shade” will open with a reception for the artist on Saturday, August 17th, 2 – 4 pm. The exhibition continues through September 25, 2013.
Mark Blaney’s early interest in art began through his father Don Blaney, a professional portrait painter and art director for the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Michigan. Growing up, Blaney developed that appreciation by spending considerable time in several museums and always gave as much attention to his artwork as he did to his academic studies.
Blaney graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1970 and has exhibited extensively across the United States, as well as in the Netherlands Antilles, Germany, and Mexico. He is the recipient of numerous awards and his works are included in many public, private, and corporate collections.
“Painting and sculpting help me to look closely into the world around. I simply get pleasure from the many forms lit by the sun. The movement and interactions among people, plants, animals and weather are reasons to make symbols. So, in two and three dimensional work, I can hold onto thoughts for awhile and share them. The variations and descriptive qualities of line and color hold a lot of my interest and every new painting is a chance at working and playing in form and color. The trading of time between sculpture and painting seem to strengthen both efforts.”
