Becoming Wisteria: The Artist and The Nude Form Within A Landscape
June 5, 2015 @ 11:30 am - July 11, 2015 @ 4:30 pm
Louisville Visual Art (please note the change in the organization’s name) is excited to present a unique, collaborative exhibit of three artists.
Artists’ Reception: June 13, 2015, 6:00-8:00pm
Julius Friedman’ photographs involve the nude figure in nature. The land and body forms combine together to create imagery that ranges from abstract to reflective. Landscape ranges from stretches of wheatgrass, bamboo, wisteria, ice and trees. For this exhibition, he has chosen to print pieces on paper and aluminum.
Devin Katayama’s audio piece, ‘Becoming Wisteria’, is both a reflection of the imagery produced by Julius Friedman and an abstract interpretation of the theme as a whole. It involves real-time dialogue from the photographic sessions, along with personal interactions and sounds from the landscape.
Alli Wile’s piece is a live-recorded performance that will take place during the Artist’s Reception June 13. Natural elements from the landscape are projected as shadows onto the live form in motion throughout the allotted gallery space. The recording will be produced live and will play on a loop throughout the duration of the exhibition.
The main area will exhibit Freidman’ photographs, with Katayama’s audio piece, ‘Becoming Wisteria’ audible throughout. The space will be very contemplative, with slight sounds of the audio piece reverberating from the back room. During the reception, there will be a performance piece will be exhibited in the back room, involving the artist moving through the space, lit only by projected shadows from natural elements. This performance will be recorded through the duration of the artist’s reception.
To maintain the integrity of all three artists’ works, viewers will be asked to not speak above a whisper during the reception and the remainder of the exhibit.
