Andrew Abbott writes “i don’t live between two worlds because worlds

aren’t like sheets. i live in world soup.”

Abbott would know. While home is perhaps Boone, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains where he grew up, he was born in Nova Scotia and has lived in different parts of the US (including a stint after college as an Army medic, stationed mostly in Louisiana), Canada, and Puerto Rico. He currently lives between Madrid, Spain and Portland, Maine.

All these places and influences feed and fold into his persistent
exploration of what it means to be a person. His paintings are paradoxes; he executes detailed portraits of a floridly mutable self with an extraordinarily consistent aesthetic and presence.
The show runs June 6 – July 25.
This is Abbott’s second solo show with garner narrative.
