Julie Sims “Mental Landscapes” Joyce Garner “cellist”
July 5, 2013 - July 27, 2013Free
July 5 – July 26, 2013
In July garner narrative presents “Mental Landscapes” by Georgia photographer
Julie Sims, and “cellist” by Louisville painter and gallery owner Joyce Garner.
In three triptychs, Sims chronicles a surreal exile through a period of creative blockage.
Creativity is a cycle of ups and downs, and there will always be times of
feeling out of touch with the creative spirit. During one of these periods –
frustrated because I knew it was there but was unable to reach it – I began
to visualize the feeling as a place, an unforgiving landscape…
By contrast, Joyce Garner’s “cellist” is a mural-sized canvas, 6 x 18′, of a
creative life set firmly within a city, a community and family.
I make a few absolute choices in my life. Just a few decisions made, decided and not
revisited, enable me to move forward. [Concerning] art – oil painter. It is what I do.
