KMAC Derby Poster Release Party

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host a KMAC Derby Poster Release Party to announce and unveil the contest winner of the official 2014 KMAC Derby Poster. The evening will include a concert from acclaimed experimental jazz collaborators, the Chicago Underground Duo, with Visiting Nurse on Thursday, April 24th. Doors open at 6:30pm, performance starts at 7pm. $20 general admission, $10 KMAC Members. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at kmacmuseum.org or at the museum the day of the show. Cash bar. Each attendee with receive a limited edition KMAC Derby Poster printed by the Louisville letterpress shop Hound Dog Press.
Drummer/percussionist Chad Taylor and cornetist Rob Mazurek, who performed at KMAC in 2012 with São Paulo Underground, are musicians of considerable talent and acclaim who have created a musical experience that is as challenging as it is rewarding. Their compositions are often a mixture of African, Electronic, and Jazz influenced sounds. They formed Chicago Underground Duo in 1997 as an organic offshoot of the larger Chicago Underground Collective. 2014 marks 17 years for Mazurek and Taylor playing together as the Chicago Underground Duo.
Locus is the seventh Chicago Underground Duo recording, released on Northern Spy in March 2014. Recorded at SOMA with Jon McEntire engineering, the duo experiments with new forms, washes of electronic ambiance, beats and free playing.
Louisville based, Visiting Nurse, employs electronic drums, keyboards, bass, and effected guitar to create their jazz influenced, ambient, beat laden sound.
