TODD FIFE’S “OCULI” REVEALED MARCH 3RD 2017
“Oculi” (the plural of oculus, eye in Latin) are eye-like windows/openings in architecture. Todd Fife’s new body of work promises to open the viewers own “oculus” as they peruse through a collection of more than 20 watercolors, each evoking a singular reaction unique to each individual. As the artist himself describes “The constant in this series are layers of oculi: antique oval frames used to focus on the subject’s eyes which look directly at the viewer, seeming to return your gaze. It is my hope to make the viewer aware of the experience of viewing art by feeling watched/viewed themselves.” His hope is easily realized as several of the pieces are tightly cropped mainly on the eyes. As a collective whole, the effect creates a direct relationship with the viewer from both understanding to judgement.
See for yourself on the First Friday of March.
Opening Reception: 3/3/17 6pm-10pm
Tim Faulkner Gallery continues to be a favorite spot for local artists and collectors. With more than 20 artists on its roster there is never a shortage of fine contemporary art from every genre and in every medium. Live local music and special events every month. With the progress of the city and its future plans in mind, Tim Faulkner Gallery will continue to provide studio spaces for 13 artists. Our gallery space boasts approximately 5,000 square feet of rich brick walls and exposed wooden beams. Built in the 1920’s, the Gallery itself has an atmosphere akin to the New York loft spaces of the early 1970’s. The performance space features 10,000 square feet of 1950’s warehouse, perfect for everything from workshops and installations to concerts and theater. With more than ample parking, Tim Faulkner Gallery invites all of Louisville to join in and celebrate the growth of our river city!
The gallery is open both by appointment and during the day.
