Solo Exhibit Featuring Steven Ciezki, Steven Ciezki is a new artist whose work has been well received. Currently showing his traditional goblet stem inspired sculptures all over the country, Flame Run is lucky to be hosting an exhibit of a some brand new works. Flame Run is featuring the work of Steven Ciezki, whose classically inspired work has a fresh, inventive quality in a solo show that opens Oct. 3 and runs through Nov. 22.
The show will include Ciezki’s towers (he also calls them stacks) that look like exaggerated goblet stems. Ciezki plays with color and space and doesn’t mind tricking the viewer about what she’s looking at. One set of stacks appear to be intertwined. As you move around the piece, the simple shapes – triangles, squares, rectangles – break down and make you take another look.
The exhibit includes a mix of Ciezki’s old and new work, an indication of how quickly the 25-year-old artist’s star is rising, said Flame Run’s Gallery Manager Tiffany Ackerman.
“This show has a lot of brand new pieces that haven’t been shown any where else. They are architecturally beautiful and very contemporary but you can see the roots of an old style,” she said. “What is going to be interesting is seeing the old work and newer work beside each other. It is really exciting when you can see how an artist’s process has developed.”
Ciezki, who earned a BFA from Illinois State University, lives and works in Phoenix, AZ. He completed a residency at the Corning Museum of Glass in May and had an exhibit at SOFA in Chicago in 2013. He is represented by four galleries, including Flame Run.
