The Speed Art Museum
Founded in 1927, The Speed’s collection spans 6,000 years, of human creativity ranging from ancient Egyptian to contemporary art. The Museum has distinguished collections of 17th century Dutch and Flemish painting; 18th century French art; Renaissance and Baroque tapestries; and significant holdings of contemporary painting and sculpture.
The Speed Art Museum isn’t going away. It’s simply changing.
Today, the doors to The Speed Art Museum are closed while undergoing a major transition with an unprecedented $50 million expansion project planned through 2016. The new Museum will welcome visitors to a space that seamlessly integrates art and nature with a new Art Park, public piazza, theater and more than 60,000 square feet of additional gallery space. During the Speed’s renovation and expansion project, the Museum opened a satellite space, Local Speed, at 822 East Market Street for special exhibitions, family activities and events.
